“Clash of the Titans“. That’s the best way to describe the MAKC Goldfish Show at Koi America held Oct 2 - 4 in Westminster MD. There were 90 top quality goldfish entered . When I arrived Friday afternoon I avoided the goldfish show tanks by shopping the vendor areas and even bought a few nice small tategoi to enter into the koi show. During that time I had a number of people tell me I would have a tough time judging the goldfish entry. There was a lot of truth in their words.

Wayne Orchard the goldfish show chair did a fine job organizing and benching the entries. Ranchu entries were divided into top view and side view which I think is going to be a standard practice for other clubs due to the increase in TVR entries. While the Ranchu numbers were impressive it was the quality of the Ryukin and Oranda entries that left me most in awe. Ryukin quality both young and mature along with their numbers were ready to sweep the awards but if you’ve ever seen the movie “300” the quality of the smaller numbered Orandas put in a great fight for dominance. I enjoyed the company of Tun Tun as shadow judge and  together  we spent the day looking at some amazing goldfish.
